Cisco is a company that builds these networking devices and one of them is routers. Cisco IOS is a proprietary operating system that Cisco routers and switches run on. Cisco’s ISR series routers are the example of routers that provide various services. ISR 1800 and 2800/2900 series routers. Every command and concept discussed holds true for all of these routers. The only difference that you need to be aware of is the output difference in memory, interface type (Ethernet or Fast Ethernet), and a number of interfaces. These interfaces available on switches vary from one series to another series. Cisco also provides a wide range of switches under its Catalyst brand. These are Fast Ethernet interfaces used to connect the hosts to the network.

Different models have different interfaces. The console port is a port used to connect to the switch to configure, monitor, and troubleshoot.

Cisco Router Login Default Router Admin and Password Setup

Step1: Turn on your PC. Connect your PC to the Cisco router. Power on the Cisco router.
[Note: Make sure that your wi-fi network is connected to PC]

Step2: Open the run dialogue box by pressing Window + R (Keys), type cmd, and press ok, to open the command prompt.

Step3: Now type the following command i.e., (IP Config). Check for the default gateway which displays your default IP Address.

Step4: After finding the login IP Address of the Cisco router, open google browser and then enter the default IP Address.
IP Address: (192.168.1.1) or (192.168.1.124).

Step5: Hit enter key to input the default login credentials.

Step6: The user name is admin and the password is admin.

Connect Your PC To The Cisco Router

Step 1: Firstly, you need to take a rollover cable and connect it in a flip pattern. Basically, there are two types of rollover cables.

  • The first type of cable includes a DB-9 connector attached to the cable. One end of the cable is connected to the PC, and the other end of the cable is connected to the router.
  • The second type of cable includes the RJ-45 connector and the ends of the cable are connected in the flip pattern.

[Note: Do not use both the rollover cables. Anyone type of rollover cable must be used.]

Step 2: Connect one end of rollover cable to the serial port of PC using DB-9 connector, and then connect the console cable to it.

Step 3: Connect another end of rollover cable to the console port of a router.

Step 4: The router is connected to PC which consists of RJ-45 to DB9 (or) RJ-45 to DB-25 adapter and console port (RJ-45).

Step 5: Communication software can be used i.e., (Hyper term, Tera term, etc) software to log in to the router.

In Order To Communicate With The Cisco Router There Are Few Steps To Follow:

Step 1: Click on Start Programs Accessories Communication Hyper Terminal.
Step 2: After clicking on Hyper Terminal, enter any name in the box provided in the connection description box. Click ok.
Step 3: Select COM port, and click on OK.Step4: Change the port settings near Bit Per Second as 9600, then click on apply.
Step 5: Information is retrieved from the router to the terminal. Information includes Processor board ID, Version, IP Address, RAM, ROM, etc.
Step 6: After the process is completed you need to log in.
